A Dane Invitation....
I lost 2 dogs 4 days apart. I immediately changed dog food, although there has been no word online or govt of a recall. I'm leaning more toward something new that the 12-way vaccine doesn't cover, something like Bird Flu, which has proved fatal in several other domestic or exotic mammal species; I'm up to my ass in barn sparrows, shitting and eating in everything.
All of the dogs had gone off of their feed for some days, and I myself had about 3 days of fever, shivering, fatigue and pretty darn loose bowels at the same time. I considered a post-mortem, even had the last one dead loaded on the truck (no small feat considering she weighed 20 Lbs more than I do), but they wanted up to $1000 if toxins or disease were tested for. Since I already changed dog food, and the survivors likely have immunity now, I just saved my money. Since it's a virus antibiotics are of no use. With no vaccine that I know of approved for humans or canines, I don't know how much can be done other than supportive care. Just be aware, and if things go sideways just know that it's not your fault and you are not alone.....
