Nature.  Survival.   "Warning: Science Content!"

Wild ewes get synchronized and all come in heat at the same time, so they all lamb at the same time.  They totally know every predator will grab as many baby lambs as they can, if they are born all through the spring they will pick them off all spring.  If they are all born at once the chances are better that they can't get them all, at least some will survive.  So Ram has to be able to do like 60 ewes in a day and still not be shooting blanks, and keep track of who he's got and who he's not (some of the slutty ones are very persistent about wanting multiple turns, he has to ignore them.  Until later.)  And he's very good at it.  Good enough that for management reasons I don't let him do them all at once; do a few and wait 3 days, do a few more, etc.

Rams have the highest percentage of their body mass in testicular tissue of any species.  Or are supposed to.  "Someone" in my community is selling rams with "golf balls".  Then they get no lambs.  Then they come here to buy a new ram, and say My Gawd! and I tell them "THERE's your problem..... "

My mini Ram has a sling to keep 'em from draggin' . Comes off 3 days before breeding and I watch him like a hawk until he's done his job..

A Jock Strap may be in order.

And if you want him to breed late in the year, don't let him sleep on the frozen ground.  If he (or a bull) lets his jewels get chilled laying on the cold ground he may go sterile for a month or so.  So give him a nice bed of straw inside.  At least until he's done for the year.
