99.99% of the time you won't get close enough to hunt hogs with a pistol. It's the late night surprises you carry a pistol for and the range on those will be single digit yards. It is common locally to kill them with a .22 at that range on the theory that small deep holes work better and aim is easier.

It's all about replicatin' the data, and you gotta love data. The last word, carry what you're comfortable with, makes the most sense I can think of. Why carry at all if you're afraid to shoot what you're holding?
