Have you tried reaching back and guiding him in?
I haven't done this myself (always wanted to, though) but I've watched probably hundreds of hours of dog/human porn, and I can say this: failures outnumber successes many times over, even between partners who are clearly experienced. Also, the failures often have a lot in common. Most common problems seem to be:
* Dog not having clearance for his hind feet. He'll want to spread his legs out wide to pull his sheath back. You'll want to spread your legs out wide to let him in. Your stance conflicts with his, and he'll approach from one side or the other, and/or trample your legs. Sometimes they get in this way, but not often or for long. Remedy: keep your knees and feet together; crossing your ankles helps with clearance. Something else you might try: fold your legs under your body, knees against chest/belly. This might put you too low for him, so look for a firm cushion to boost yourself up on.
* Human holding too vertical of a stance. May be one of the most common problems; person gets on all fours and holds their torso up on straight elbows. Your back will be too steep for him to get a comfortable grip and he'll slide or step off. Remedy: bend your elbows, lower your shoulders, maybe even put your head on the floor. Don't forget to keep your hips in the air. If you get lower than he needs you to be, you can adjust upward a little.
* Dog gets too far up on human's back. I think the reason I see a lot of this is that the porn videographers ask for it, wanting an easy camera shot of the dick in the hole. Dog is pointed more downward than inward and pops out. Remedy: position yourself such that the dog's angle of thrust is a little more upward than horizontal. This is natural for the dog, since a bitch's vulva is below her vagina; he has to thrust upward to get all the way in.
* A more subtle problem--the dog's hind legs slip or slide on slick floors or loose rugs or blankets. A rubber yoga mat would be just great for both of you; if one isn't wide enough, tape two together.
You may also consider missionary.
Finally, you may be despairing prematurely. I've seen vids with dozens of unsuccessful attempts over hours with inexperienced dogs, but they seem to catch on real fast once they've managed a successful mounting or two. Keep in mind also that we're not built for them; the skinniest human has far wider hips than any dog, and that might steepen the learning curve for them.
